Folk dance occupies a very important place with the Cypriots, who due to their geographic location, have benefited from a variety of cultures. Romans, Byzantines, Venetians and Turks have all influenced the cultural heritage of this Mediterranean island. Often called magical, archeological sites there date back more than 7,000 years before time of Christ. Folk dance is exteremly important in the lives of Cypriots as it provides unity and identity.
